Hawaii Solar Power

Using solar power has been encouraged by the federal government, in an effort to get more people to start using solar power the federal government began creating tax incentives for people who choose to go solar. For some people this alone was enough incentive, but if you live in Hawaii and decide to go solar, you will be pleasantly surprised.

Hawaii solar power has been encouraged by the state government because it costs far less than using gas or even electricity. For people in Hawaii relying on other types of fuel, such as gas, gets expensive because the fuel has to be shipped to the islands. Having to ship in the fossil fuels that are needed to run or heat your home means that the price of using those fossil fuels is going to be sky-high. To help lower the dependence on fossil fuels Hawaii’s government decided to make an offer that most homeowners can’t refuse.

One incentive that the Hawaiian government is offering for Hawaii solar power is any homeowner that converts their residence to solar power is eligible to receive an upfront tax credit of $5,000. The best part about the tax credit is that unlike a tax deduction the tax credit is applied directly to any taxes that the homeowner owes for the current tax year, this can actually wipe out any taxes that an average homeowner would owe.

Another incentive that Hawaii is offering its citizens to get people to use thermal and water heating that are powered by solar power is a percent back based on what you are installing. For example, if you decide to install a solar thermal system you can get back 35% of the actual cost or a maximum of $2,500. If you choose to install a solar water heating system, you will not have to pay anything for the system because Hawaii is having the utility companies give it to you upfront. You will have to pay a small monthly fee that is added on to your utility bill until it has been paid off. The best part about this is that solar water heaters save you a ton of money on your utilities.

Hawaii solar power incentives are not just offered to homeowners, commercial property owners can also receive some benefits. Commercial property owners can get anywhere from $250,000 to $500,000 in tax credits for converting to solar power. The best part is that Hawaii has sun year round, so why not take advantage of it as energy.
